Growing up, my mom would always wait til the end of the day on the 4th of July and declare “Well, summer’s over”. I have no idea why she said this… but it seemed like the holiday was the turning point of the summer. That was also back when kids got out of school in early to mid June and the 4th really was a turning point of the summer.
Now it seems that the 4th is the beginning of a 2 month summer that ends around Labor Day, when kids go back to school. So I guess we can say “well, summer’s here”. And it really feels like it, its so HOT out there! I have to say, summer is my least favorite of the seasons, although there are great things about it. I’m just more of a cold-weather gal. But as long as there are hammocks to lay in and sack races to be had… I’m also a very happy lady.
What’s your favorite thing about summer?

I definitely feel like the 4th of July is the start of summer. I’m totally with you!
Its definitely here!
I usually think of Memorial Day as the start of summer — but definitely July 4 can’t be the end! The weather just started to gt nice!
I think that because I work with kids and they go to school til late June, I don’t feel like Memorial Day starts the summer any more!
I definitely feel like summer just truly started with the long weekend. Swimming is probably my favorite part of summer… I think I am part fish.
I LOVE swimming and only get to do it once a year! Boo!
One of my favorite parts is taking my running outside. I can’t run through the cold temps – or at least I haven’t convinced myself it is possible. But heat – now I can run and sweat through that!!
I’m also loving the outdoor cafes that seem to pop up all over the city. There is something a little magical about sitting outside, watching the world go by, sipping an iced coffee or beer. – Katy
I think of Fourth of July as a mid point of sorts. Memorial Day is the beginning and Labor Day is the end. However, now that I’m not in school anymore, I feel like summer lasts past Labor Day. We usually try to take a summer vacation in September. The temps are still warm and the sun is still all shiny and fun. I don’t know!
My favorite summer activity by far is all the traveling we do in the summer. So great to see good friends and eat dinner outside under the stars.
